We pour a lot of love into every Ember Hour candle, and with a little care, yours will burn beautifully from start to finish. Here’s how to get the most from your candle — safely and sustainably.

Keep Your Wick Trimmed

Our wicks are made from 100% cotton — natural, non-toxic, and designed for a clean, even burn.

Before each light, trim your wick to around 3mm. A shorter wick keeps the flame small and steady, helping your candle burn evenly and preventing soot from forming around the inside of the glass. It also helps your jar stay looking lovely from the very first burn to the last.

The First Burn Matters Most

The first time you light your candle, let it burn until the melted wax reaches all the way to the edges of the jar. This sets the “memory” of your candle and helps it burn evenly each time after — no tunnelling, no wasted wax.
For best results, keep your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface while it’s burning.

Keep It Clean

Trimming your wick regularly is the best way to keep your candle clean, but a little extra care goes a long way.
After trimming, catch the wick trimmings with a tissue so they don’t fall into the wax pool. Avoid dropping matches or debris into the wax — this can cause uneven burning, soot, or even a small flame hazard (plus, it doesn’t smell great!).

Safety First

Candles are made to bring calm, not chaos — so please burn responsibly.

  • Burn for a maximum of 4 hours at a time.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep away from children, pets, and anything flammable.
  • Always place your candle on a heat-resistant surface or mat.
  • Leave at least 10cm between burning candles.
  • Never use liquid to extinguish your candle — simply blow it out gently or use a snuffer.

A little mindfulness goes a long way toward keeping your candle experience safe and enjoyable.

Repurpose Your Jar

When your candle has finished, the jar’s story doesn’t have to end there.
Clean out any leftover wax and reuse your jar — as a mini plant pot, a pen holder, or a stylish home for cotton buds or makeup brushes.
